What is a Competency?
Learning objectives are statements that define a specific goal of a curriculum, learning module, course, or lesson in terms of demonstrable skills or knowledge. These skills or knowledge will be acquired as a result of the instruction in the module, course, or lesson. Learning objectives can also be defined as learning outcomes or goals.
The competency is the capability to apply or use a specific set of related knowledge, skills, or abilities (KSAs).
With LifterLMS xAPI you can set up competencies and associate them with LifterLMS courses, lessons, quizzes, or quiz questions. Competency information can be sent to your LRS through the xAPI.
What is a LRS?
A Learning Record Store (LRS) is a database where you can store learning activities and competencies coming from your LMS or multiple LMSs in different locations or from external Services or Apps via the xAPI. Once the database has the information, you can run custom reports on that information. With LifterLMS xAPI, you can run these reports from inside your WordPress website.
You can connect LifterLMS xAPI to any LRS of your choosing. When you first set up your LifterLMS xAPI install, we offer a connection to a Learning Locker LRS system provided by Learning Templates that does not have any data limits.

As an example, with LifterLMS xAPI you can add interactive H5P content to your LifterLMS lessons or quiz questions. Reporting on how the user interacted with the content would be sent to your LRS. How cool is that?
What are eLearning Authoring Tools?
There are software programs out there where you can create eLearning content. These software programs are called eLearning authoring tools. When you build learning content with these tools, you are an instructional designer.

With LifterLMS xAPI, you can add learning content created with these authoring tools to your LifterLMS courses, lessons, quizzes, and quiz questions. You can even serve up this type of eLearning content if it’s not on your hosting account or server as long, as you have the correct access privileges.
When you use these types of eLearning authoring tools, you can mix and match eLearning-authored content with the standard WordPress post-based LifterLMS courses and lessons. So you may have a standard LifterLMS video lesson with an embedded Vimeo Pro video, but then a quiz that you made with Lectora. Then the next LifterLMS lesson might contain H5P content. The options for creating dynamic digital learning content are only limited by the power of your “instructional design” imagination.
